FAQ
Questions, answered.
Buying a used EV should feel like a good decision, not a guessing game. Here are straight answers to the things people ask us most. Still curious about something? Call or text us any time at 574-339-5372.
New to EVs?
How far can an EV go on a single charge?
It depends on the model, but most of the EVs we carry deliver well over 200 miles of real-world range, and many are rated north of 300. For the vast majority of drivers that is several days of normal driving between charges. Every listing shows the car's range so you can match it to how you actually drive.
Where and how do I charge an EV?
Most owners do the majority of their charging at home overnight, then top up on public chargers as needed. You can plug into a standard household outlet, add a faster 240-volt home charger, or use public Level 2 and DC fast chargers around town and on the highway. We will help you figure out the right setup for your home and how you drive.
How long does it take to charge?
At home you simply plug in overnight and wake up full. A 240-volt home charger fills most cars in a few hours. On a road trip, a DC fast charger can take a car from low to about 80 percent in roughly 20 to 40 minutes, about the length of a coffee-and-restroom stop. Charging times vary by car and charger.
Do I need special equipment to charge at home?
Not to get started. Every EV can charge from a standard 120-volt household outlet, which is plenty for many drivers. If you want faster charging, a 240-volt Level 2 charger tops the car up much quicker, and we can point you to the right charger and an installation quote.
Can I take an EV on road trips?
Yes. Today's charging networks make longer trips very doable. You drive, then fast-charge during natural stops. A little planning around charger locations goes a long way, and the car's built-in trip planner or a phone app handles most of it for you.
How do EVs handle Indiana and Michigan winters?
EVs work well in the cold, though like any car they are a bit less efficient in winter, so you will see some range dip on the coldest days. Preconditioning the cabin and battery while still plugged in helps a lot, and instant heat and strong traction actually make EVs great winter cars.
How long does the battery last, and will it wear out?
EV batteries are built to last, typically well beyond their long factory warranty, and they degrade slowly and gradually rather than failing suddenly. That is exactly why we verify and share each car's battery state of health, so you can see how much life is left before you buy.
Is an EV cheaper to own than a gas car?
Usually, yes. Charging costs less than gas per mile, and there are no oil changes, no spark plugs, and far fewer moving parts to maintain. The purchase price is the main cost, and buying used, like you do with us, is where the savings really add up.
Is there still a tax credit for buying a used EV?
The federal used-EV tax credit ended for purchases made after September 30, 2025, so there is no federal purchase credit on a used EV today. Some states and utilities still offer their own EV incentives, so it is worth checking your local programs, and we are happy to point you in the right direction. We are not tax advisors, so please confirm any credit with a professional.
Pricing & buying
How does Otonamo's pricing work?
Every vehicle is priced in plain sight. The number you see is what you pay us. No dealer fees, no doc fees, no junk fees, because we think fees are lame. You should expect to register the car with your local DMV, and that is it.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Financing is available, and you can get financed and trade in your current car all in one visit. Reach out and we will help you understand your options and estimated monthly payment before you commit.
Can I trade in or sell you my current car?
Yes. Tell us about your car in a few minutes and we will send your offer within one business day, good for seven days. Already have a written instant offer from KBB® or CarMax®? Bring it, and we will beat any verified, current written offer. Cash out, or put it toward a car from our inventory.
The cars
What kind of EVs does Otonamo sell?
We sell hand-picked pre-owned electric vehicles. We do not take everything that comes our way. Every EV is selected for clean history and condition, inspected thoroughly, and honestly described. If a car does not meet our standard, it does not make it to the lot.
How do you verify a car's condition and history?
Every car is inspected and comes with a vehicle history report. We sell clean-title cars, and we will share the full condition report so you know exactly what you are getting. Just ask and we will walk you through it.
What do you mean by verified battery health?
Battery health is where an EV's real value lives, so we put it front and center. Each car comes with a clear state-of-health figure, backed by an independent battery report where available, plus the remaining manufacturer battery warranty details. We will explain what it all means in plain language.
Do your cars still have warranty coverage?
Yes. Every car we sell is still covered by its original factory warranty, and the long factory battery and EV-component warranty transfers to you. We are also selecting an extended-warranty partner we would genuinely stand behind, and we will offer that coverage once it is ready.
Test drives & visiting
Can I test drive before I buy?
Absolutely. Book a test drive online in a couple of minutes and pick a time that works for you. Booking is free and flexible, with no payment and no pressure, and we will have the car charged and ready when you arrive.
Where are you located and what are your hours?
We are at 1649 E McKinley Ave, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with evening and Saturday appointments available by request. Call or text us at 574-339-5372.
Delivery & out-of-state
Do you deliver, and can I buy from out of state?
Yes to both. Want your EV brought to you? We will deliver it to your door, just ask. We also work with out-of-state buyers: you pay the sales tax and registration for your home state rather than Indiana's, and we can estimate those costs up front so there are no surprises.
Will you help with home charging and setup?
Yes. We can help you sort out home charging, from picking the right equipment to a charger installation quote, and we carry vetted charging gear and accessories. From charging setup to living with an EV day to day, we are here after you drive off, not just until the paperwork is signed.
Still have a question?
We would rather answer it than have you wonder. Call or text, or stop by the showroom in Mishawaka.
