Emporia Pro Level 2 EV Charger

The Emporia Pro uses dynamic load shedding to automatically throttle charging and stay within your panel's capacity, so most homes charge at full Level 2 speed without a costly electrical panel upgrade. And it works with every EV.

The Emporia difference

Dynamic load shedding. Often no panel upgrade.

This is the feature that changes the math. PowerSmart uses dynamic load shedding: it watches your home's power use in real time and automatically sheds and throttles the charger's draw so it only ever uses the capacity you have to spare, always staying within your panel's limit. That is what lets most homes add full-speed Level 2 charging without upgrading from 100A to 200A service, an upgrade that often runs well over a thousand dollars.

PowerSmart is recognized under the National Electrical Code as an approved alternative to adding a dedicated circuit, so in most areas it lets you charge at full Level 2 speed on the service you already have. It often helps homeowners avoid a costly panel upgrade, though whether it works for your home depends on your panel and your total energy use.

PowerSmart and the energy monitor it needs are built into the Pro, right out of the box. Tell us about your panel and we will spec the right setup for your home.

Why Emporia.

How the Emporia Pro stacks up against Tesla's Wall Connector and a generic Level 2 charger, in plain terms.

No panel upgrade needed

PowerSmart load management shares your home's existing electrical capacity, so most homes skip a costly 100A to 200A panel upgrade. Tesla's Wall Connector and most chargers need their own dedicated circuit, which a full panel often cannot spare without that upgrade.

Works with every EV

The Pro comes in a J1772 version that charges any electric vehicle, and a NACS version for Tesla. You are not locked into one brand's ecosystem.

See and control your power

The Emporia app monitors your energy use, schedules charging for cheaper off-peak hours, and works with solar. It is a smart-home energy device, not just a plug.

Full speed, better value

Up to 48A and 11.5 kW, UL Listed and ENERGY STAR certified, at a lower price than the premium-brand chargers.

To be fair, Tesla's Wall Connector is a solid charger, especially in a Tesla-only household. For most homes, Emporia's load management and universal compatibility make it the smarter pick.
