Sell your Tesla to people who know Teslas

Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X or Cybertruck: tell us about it and get a written offer within one business day, good for seven days. We are an EV dealership in Mishawaka, so we know what the battery, the trim and the self-driving computer are worth.

How it works

  1. Tell us about your Tesla. A few honest minutes online. The VIN is best, because it tells us the exact build.
  2. Get your offer. In writing, within one business day, and good for seven days.
  3. Get paid. Cash out, or put the value toward a car from our inventory. We come to you, or you come to us.

Already have a written instant offer from Kelley Blue Book or CarMax? Bring it. We will beat any verified, current written instant offer for the same vehicle that you show us at or before the sale. Final offers depend on an in-person inspection, a test drive and a title check, and they assume the car matches the description you gave us.

Why sell a Tesla to an EV dealer

  • We value the battery properly. Recurrent estimates the battery is roughly 30 to 40 percent of an EV's value. We put an independent Recurrent battery report on every EV we sell, so we know what a healthy pack is worth and yours counts in your favor.
  • We know the details that change the price. Long Range or Performance, Hardware 3 or Hardware 4, paid-up Full Self-Driving or not. Tell us what you have and it counts.
  • Cash is an option. Tesla's own program accepts trade-ins toward the purchase of a new or certified pre-owned Tesla, and says its offers are not negotiable. We will buy your Tesla whether or not you buy a car from us.
  • We beat written offers. Bring a verified, current written instant offer from Kelley Blue Book or CarMax for the same car and we will beat it.

Getting your Tesla ready to hand over

A Tesla is tied to your Tesla account, so there are two steps a gas car does not have. Do them in this order, when you hand the car over, not before:

  1. Factory reset the car. On the touchscreen: Controls, then Service, then Factory Reset. This erases your personal data from the car, including saved addresses and garage door programming. Tesla notes that you cannot do the reset after the car has left your account, so it comes first.
  2. Remove the car from your Tesla account. In the Tesla app: the menu, then My Products, then the car, then Remove or Transfer Ownership. A Tesla can have only one owner account at a time, so this clears the way for the next owner.

A few things worth knowing before you do:

  • Full Self-Driving. If you bought FSD outright and did not move it to another car, Tesla says it stays with the car, and that can raise your offer. An FSD subscription ends when the car leaves your account.
  • Subscriptions. Removing the car ends its paid subscriptions, including Premium Connectivity.
  • Supercharging credits. Tesla says promotional credits expire when the car is sold or transferred.
  • Warranty. Tesla's new vehicle warranty follows the car to the next owner. The Tesla app shows what is left under Specs and Warranty.
  • Battery health test. Tesla has a built-in test at Controls, then Service, then Battery Health. It can take up to 24 hours to run, so it is optional.
  • Keys and cable. Bring both key cards, any key fob, and the Mobile Connector with its adapters if the car came with one.

What to bring

  • The title. In Indiana, every owner named on the title signs and prints their name in the seller section, and the seller fills in the odometer reading. If an owner cannot be there, a notarized limited power of attorney (Indiana State Form 1940) lets someone sign for them.
  • If the title is electronic. Indiana has offered electronic titles since July 1, 2025. Tell us, and we will sort out with you whether it needs to be printed first.
  • Loan payoff details. If you still owe on the car, bring the lender's name and your account number so we can get the payoff amount.
  • Every key, and the charging equipment that came with the car. Key cards, fobs, the charging cable and any adapters.
  • Your driver's license.

Keep your license plate. In Indiana the plate stays with you, not the car. Take it off when you hand the car over. You can move it to another vehicle you own, and the BMV does not require you to return it.

Coming from Michigan? We buy from Michigan owners too. You complete the seller's part of the Michigan title, including the odometer reading, remove your plate and keep it. Michigan asks sellers to keep a copy of the title and a record of the sale for at least 18 months.

If you still owe on it

That is normal, and it does not stop a sale. The usual route is that we get the payoff amount from your lender, pay the loan off and pay you the difference. Before a title can change hands the lender has to release its lien, and with an electronic lien it does that electronically. If you owe more than the car is worth, you can pay the difference, and we will show you the numbers before you decide.

Selling versus trading in

Our offer is the same either way. The difference is sales tax. When you trade your car toward one of ours, Indiana charges its 7 percent sales tax on the price of the car you are buying minus your trade-in allowance. On a $15,000 trade that is $1,050 you do not pay. Sell outright and buy later, and you pay tax on the full price.

If you will title the car you buy in Michigan, Indiana's rules generally have a dealer collect tax at Michigan's 6 percent rate instead of Indiana's 7. Michigan also has its own limit on how much trade-in value it excludes from tax ($12,000 in 2026, rising each year until the limit ends in 2029). How that limit applies to a car bought from an Indiana dealer is a question for the Michigan Department of Treasury. We are not tax advisors, so we lay out the numbers and you confirm them before you sign.

Selling a Tesla: questions

Does Full Self-Driving add value when I sell my Tesla?

It can, if you bought FSD outright and it is still on the car. According to Tesla, a used car whose previous owner purchased FSD and did not transfer it keeps FSD for the next owner. A monthly FSD subscription does not carry over, so it adds nothing to the car's value.

When should I remove my Tesla from my account?

At handover, after the factory reset. Reset the car first (Controls, Service, Factory Reset), then remove it in the Tesla app under My Products. If you remove it first you can no longer run the reset.

Will Tesla buy my car instead?

Tesla describes its program as trade-ins toward the purchase of a new or certified pre-owned Tesla, with offers that are not negotiable and that expire after 30 days or 1,000 miles. If you want to sell without buying another Tesla, or want a second number, ask us.

Will you match an offer from CarMax or Kelley Blue Book?

We will beat it. Bring a verified, current, written instant offer for the same vehicle, such as a Kelley Blue Book Instant Cash Offer or a CarMax written offer that has not expired, show it to us at or before the sale, and we will beat it. Verbal figures, estimates and expired offers do not count.

Can I sell a car I still owe money on?

Yes. We get the payoff amount from your lender, pay off the loan and pay you whatever is left. The lender releases its lien and the title follows.

How long does it take to sell my car to Otonamo?

You get a written offer within one business day of telling us about the car, and the offer is good for seven days. Once you accept, we inspect the car, check the title and pay you.
